The Medic Mentor Virtual Work Experience Programme, developed in partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, provides an immersive remote insight into medicine for students considering medical school. The programme covers six different areas of medicine, involves real doctors and high-fidelity clinical simulations, and takes students through a complete patient journey and the multidisciplinary team.

The course is e-learning based so students can complete sessions in their own time around school work. Students have 30 days to complete each session, and a certificate of completion is awarded once all six sessions are finished. A free reflective journal is included to support personal statements and interview preparation for medical school applications.

This programme is positioned to help prospective medical applicants demonstrate people-focused experience and observation of healthcare to medical schools. Access to the virtual work experience is provided via attendance at a Get Into Medicine conference.

The IOA (Institute of Acoustics) Young Persons Competition 2026 invites young people to explore acoustics, sound, noise and vibration through creative, scientific or technical responses to the theme "Sound Unleashed". Entrants may discuss how sound shapes experiences, where technology helps or falls short, or how better sound design can improve communities and the environment. Submissions may be from individuals or teams (up to five), and the organisers welcome work from students interested in music, film, engineering, gaming, wildlife and related areas. Participants should submit a short video (preferably MP4) of no more than five minutes. Winners will receive £1,000 per winning entry. Join the University of Gloucestershire for a Marketing Taster Day at the Oxstalls Campus, designed to give Year 12 and Year 13 students an introduction to how marketing decisions are made.

During the day, academics will guide you through how human behaviour, social trends and target audiences influence marketing campaigns. Join Barnardo's in its Congleton charity shop and help keep a busy retail store running smoothly. Volunteers support a wide range of day-to-day shop activities that raise vital funds for Barnardo's work with vulnerable children, young people and families across the UK. Typical tasks include working on the till, processing sales and returns, sorting, steaming and pricing donated stock, creating window displays, replenishing the shop floor, and helping with stock-take and other admin duties. Full training is provided, so you do not need previous retail experience. This is a flexible volunteering role, with one shift a week preferred but more available if you want it. Barnardo's says the role is suitable for 16-18 year olds, and applicants must be at least 14. It is also friendly for university students and offers a chance to build confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills while making a real difference in the community.

Learn to Lead Sport Climbs is a hands-on climbing workshop for people who are ready to move on from top-roping and start learning the skills needed for lead climbing on bolted sport routes. The session focuses on the practical foundations of leading safely and confidently, with guidance from an experienced instructor in a supportive environment. Participants will cover essential techniques such as safe clipping, rope management, route reading, belaying a lead climber, and understanding how to manage falls. The workshop also emphasises risk assessment, clear communication, and building confidence while climbing on the sharp end. It is designed for climbers aiming for their first outdoor lead, as well as those who want to refresh their fundamentals. The workshop runs over two days at Plas y Brenin National Outdoor Centre, and a 1:4 workshop ratio is provided. Accommodation is not included with the ticket, but can be arranged separately nearby.

The Northumbria Undergraduate Award is a cash award for UK/Home students starting a full-time undergraduate course at Northumbria University. It is designed to support students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds in Higher Education and help with budgeting and study costs during their degree. Successful applicants receive a total of £4,000, paid in instalments across the first three years of study. The award is made on an annual basis, provided the student progresses to the next year of study, and it is not paid during a placement year or repeated year. Students who receive this award cannot also receive another Northumbria undergraduate award in the same cycle. Applicants must meet the university’s residency, enrolment, funding and offer conditions, and they must satisfy at least one of the award’s priority criteria. These include living in a low-progression neighbourhood, being from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background, or having a declared physical or mental health condition, long-term illness, or learning difference. Applications are submitted online, with a short written response or optional video statement explaining how the award will support success in Higher Education.

Join Blue Rivers for a three-part online Summer Poetry Reading Series held over Zoom. Each session features poets published on Blue Rivers followed by an opportunity for other attendees to read if time allows. Sessions are intended as readings rather than workshops: there is no critique, only shared listening, brief Q&A as time permits, and a welcoming space for community. Each session runs for about an hour and aims for roughly 8-10 minutes per reader (a little more if the group is small). Reading is optional - you can register to listen only, or register and indicate interest in a reading slot via the reader sign-up made available to registrants. The hosts will share the Zoom link and reader sign-up form with those who register through Eventbrite. The series emphasizes respectful conduct (no hate speech, erotic content, or disruptions) and sessions will not be recorded. This Field Studies Council small-group field course offers A Level Geography students practical preparation for their individual Non-Exam Assessment (NEA). Over five days based at Margam Discovery Centre (Margam Park, between Swansea and Cardiff) students prepare, plan and collect primary data across coastal, urban and parkland environments, and receive guided tuition on field methods, data collection and analysis.

The course combines on-site workshops and supervised field sessions (coastal work at Newton, urban work at Porthcawl and surveys within Margam Park), evening data analysis and statistical sessions, and dedicated NEA workshops covering question formulation, secondary research, risk assessment and methodology. Small-group and individual student days are designed for individual students, home-educated students or schools with small cohorts. Full-board accommodation, in-course transport and expert tuition are included where residential options apply; under-18 participants from a single school must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The TeenTech Awards are a national competition for young innovators that invites students to develop and showcase projects addressing real-world problems. Participants may work individually or in teams of up to three across a wide range of innovation, skills and research categories, exploring areas such as transport, healthcare, energy efficiency, digital media and more. Every submitted project receives feedback and is awarded bronze, silver or gold; the strongest entries progress to the TeenTech Awards Final for judging. The programme supports schools with suggested structures and industry contacts, and TeenTech connects teams with industry mentors to help develop projects. TeenTech also runs live, interactive 'Top Tips' sessions for teachers and students to explain how to run the Awards successfully and to help with research, IP protection and practical project development. Winners of the Final receive a cash prize and finalists take part in the showcase and judging events. The Veritas AI Fellowship is an online, mentored programme where participants develop a novel AI project over 12-15 weeks. Each fellow works independently on a project while receiving regular one-to-one mentorship from an AI practitioner or researcher, with 12 scheduled 1-1 sessions and opportunities to present work to peers. The programme is structured into three phases: Weeks 1-4 for exploration and learning (identifying a research question and suitable ML model), Weeks 5-8 for ideation and data exploration (assessing feasibility and resources), and Weeks 9-15 for execution (building the final project and troubleshooting with a mentor). Oxford Summer Courses' International Relations summer school is an intensive academic programme hosted in Cambridge university colleges for 16-17 year olds. Teaching follows an Oxford-style tutorial approach with small group seminars (maximum eight students) and interactive masterclasses. Students explore the origins of nationalism, the role of states in international politics, theories of diplomacy and conflict, and analyse contemporary global issues through case studies. South Downs Youth Action is a volunteering opportunity for young people who want to make a difference in the South Downs National Park. This August session at Seven Sisters focuses on nature recovery and habitat management, supporting the Rangers with important landscape conservation work. A certificate is awarded when the programme is completed.

The Spanish Residential Summer School for Teenagers runs on a secure Albergue campus in Marbella city centre and offers 2- or 4-week options with full-board accommodation. Students can choose residence, homestay, day camp, or course-only options. Residence accommodation is in 3- or 4-bed dormitories with air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms; homestay students stay in twin rooms with shared facilities (no air-conditioning). Extras such as airport transfers and additional nights can be arranged for a fee.

Tuition comprises 20 Spanish lessons per week held between 09:00 and 12:30 in a nearby school (maximum 15 students per class). Course materials are included. Activities are scheduled every weekday afternoon and evening until about 19:30, with half-day excursions during the week and full-day excursions at weekends. Supervised workshops, sports, cultural activities and conversation sessions are part of the programme.

The course is suitable for students aged 1418 of any nationality and ability level, including complete beginners. Students are grouped by age and gender; those aged 15+ may have supervised free time in small groups with parental permission. Arrival is normally the Sunday before lessons start, with departure the Saturday after the course ends.

Medic Mind's Medicine Work Experience is an immersive, practical programme based in central London that gives students hands-on exposure to clinical environments and healthcare practice.

Participants take part in clinical-skills workshops (suturing, venipuncture), basic life support training, emergency simulations in a teaching-hospital setting, hospice/palliative-care visits, and mock MMI circuits with feedback to support medical school interview preparation. The programme is led by medical professionals and includes UCAT preparation and career-skills sessions.

Choose a 1-, 2- or 3-week option, with small groups (10-12 students) to maximise hands-on learning. Residential participants stay in UCL Ramsay Hall (single occupancy rooms, shared facilities) for the DofE Gold residential option. On completion students receive a certificate suitable for UCAS and CV use. A widening-participation bursary scheme is available (full, 75%, 50%).

Join Sussex Wildlife Trust for a coastal taster day at Rottingdean Beach, where young people can spend time outdoors rock pooling, exploring coastal ecology and getting creative in a relaxed beach setting. The session is designed as a fun, practical introduction to nature-based activities and to the kinds of experiences Sussex Wildlife Trust offers for young people. Participants will take part in hands-on activities, learn more about supporting the coast and wildlife, and enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach. The day is intended to help young people discover local nature, build confidence outdoors and explore pathways linked to green careers. The event is part of a wider series of opportunities for young people aged 16-19 and is meant to give participants a chance to help shape an upcoming course through their feedback and experiences.

This one-day expedition medicine course is designed for mountaineers, trekkers, and expedition leaders who want to build practical knowledge for travel and decision-making in remote mountain environments. It focuses on recognising, preventing, and managing altitude-related illness when medical support may be limited or delayed. The course covers acclimatisation, AMS, HACE, HAPE, cold injury, and evacuation planning, with an emphasis on realistic case scenarios and expedition-based problem solving. Participants should come away better prepared to look after themselves and their teams when adventures go wrong at altitude. It is not a 16-hour first aid course and does not meet the requirements for Outdoor Instructor Qualifications, but instead offers a more in-depth look at the kinds of incidents walkers, climbers, and mountaineers may encounter in the field.
