Pre-University: Insights into the Life Sciences

This two-week, on-campus summer course at the University of Edinburgh introduces students to multiple areas of the Life Sciences including Biology, Chemistry, Genetics and Immunology. Through a mix of mini-lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals and workshop activities, students will explore real-life research, carry out investigations and meet scientists working and studying at the university.

The programme is designed for 16-18 year olds in their penultimate or final year of school who are considering undergraduate study in the Life Sciences. Sessions include academic skills and literacy support, advice on applying to UK universities from the University Admissions team, and visits to other science organisations.

Class times are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10:00-12:00 and Tuesday, Thursday 10:00-16:00. Students will develop practical scientific skills (designing and carrying out investigations, using equipment, analysing data), collaborative working and communication of research.
