Want to shadow real medical teams in Kenya and strengthen your university or career prospects? Join Projects Abroad’s supervised medical internship in Nanyuki: live with a host family, shadow doctors and nurses across departments, build insight and practical skills under trained supervision.

Projects Abroad runs a supervised medical internship in Nanyuki, Kenya, aimed at high school students. Participants live with a local host family and work primarily in a clinic or hospital setting, gaining observational experience alongside doctors and nurses.

The programme emphasises safety and supervision: Projects Abroad coordinators and medical professionals oversee all activities and accompany interns during placement work. On the internship you will shadow medical staff across departments, take part in community outreach activities (such as basic health checks, temperature and weight checks, and blood pressure readings), and attend workshops on topics like tropical diseases and HIV/AIDS.

The listing notes 25 clinical shadowing hours and 15 volunteer service hours as typical components of the programme. The project aims to give teenagers practical insight into healthcare challenges in developing countries while providing cultural immersion and social activities.

Support includes airport pickup, in-country staff support, training, certification on completion, and organised weekend trips and social events. The programme is run during school holidays, with fixed summer dates available through Projects Abroad.
