A five-week introductory stone carving workshop for beginners run by The Creative Dimension Trust at Building Crafts College, London. The course introduces hand tools and fundamental techniques for working in stone.
It begins with soap carving to help learners familiarise themselves with working in 3D form, then progresses to carving a form in soft limestone, developing designs and producing a traditional architectural low relief. Sessions take place in well-equipped stonemasonry workshops with guidance from experienced stone carving tutors.
This practical, hands-on workshop is aimed at 14 19 year olds interested in creative and craft careers. It offers transferable skills and insight into career paths such as architecture, fine art, jewellery making, conservation and theatre design.
