Join Tarmac as an Apprentice Operative and learn on the job helping to manufacture materials for roads, buildings and infrastructure. The role involves operating production equipment (for example cranes, forklifts and fixed plant), carrying out basic maintenance and inspections, supporting health and safety practices, producing accurate reports and working collaboratively to drive continuous improvement.
Much of the apprenticeship is practical and spent on-site; you will work both inside and outside and full protective clothing is provided. Your apprenticeship includes formal training with Tarmac Trading Limited toward the Level 2 course in mineral and construction product sampling and testing operations.
You will gain practical testing skills (e. g. , grading, binder content, bulk density and texture depth tests), learn to follow standard operating procedures, record and interpret test data, diagnose equipment faults, and communicate findings clearly.
Training is delivered in block release at the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield (NG20 9JF). This position is full-time (38 hours per week, Monday-Friday) with a start date of 1 September 2026 and a listed duration of 1 year 1 month.
