Pianist Robert Levin, widely regarded as a leading figure in classical improvisation, visits the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as International Chair of the Centre for Creative Performance and Classical Improvisation. During his annual residency he works directly with Guildhall soloists and chamber musicians, sharing techniques and insights from his extensive performing and teaching career.
This open masterclass offers the public the chance to observe Levin coaching student performers and demonstrating classical improvisational practice. The session is designed primarily as a teaching and demonstration event for Guildhall students, but members of the public are welcome to attend, listen, and learn from the proceedings.
The session lasts three hours; audience members may drop in and will be admitted at an appropriate moment. The event is free of charge with no tickets required and takes place at the Silk Street Music Hall in the main Guildhall School building (Barbican access available).
