Somerville College, Oxford - Virtual Modern Languages Study Day

Somerville College, University of Oxford runs an annual series of virtual Study Days specifically for Year 12 students at UK state schools who are considering degree study in modern languages. The sessions are designed to provide a challenging and entertaining introduction to university-level study in languages and related cultural topics, and are suitable whether students are already committed to a particular language (for example French) or are still deciding.

The virtual Modern Languages Study Day on Wednesday 18 February 2026 features a short admissions talk with Q&A followed by an academic taster session (attendees choose between two different subject options per day) and a subject Q&A with academic and student ambassadors. The daily timetable is: 15:00-15:50 admissions talk with Q&A, 16:00-17:00 academic taster session, and 17:00-17:30 subject Q&A.

These study days also include advice from admissions and outreach staff about applying to Oxford and Cambridge and offer opportunities to ask tutors and current undergraduates questions. The sessions are recommended as supercurricular activities to support personal statements.
