SSE's Trainee Engineer programme is a three-year paid trainee/apprenticeship that combines on-the-job engineering experience with formal study. Participants work towards an HNC in Engineering Systems and a Diploma in Higher Education while learning on-site across SSE Transmission.
The programme involves placements in the Transmission business, hands-on field work, and technical training including Low Voltage and High Voltage Switching. From day one you'll be involved in projects that support the electricity transmission network and the transition to net zero.
Over the three years you’ll develop practical skills, take increasing responsibility (including managing jobs and safety processes), and be prepared to move into a professional role within SSE Transmission. The role is permanent and full-time, with a start date of August 2026 and base locations including Inverness, Aberdeen and Elgin.
