University of Glasgow Lovelace-Hodgkin Symposium 2026: Making the Invisible, Visible

The Lovelace-Hodgkin Symposium 2026 is a one-day in-person event at the Glasgow University Union exploring how artificial intelligence shapes society in ways that are often hidden or overlooked. It is designed for anyone with an interest in technology, society, creativity, ethics or social justice, and is open to more than just academics and technology specialists.

The programme combines talks, workshops, games and artworks to examine how AI systems work, what they make visible or invisible, and whose voices are included or excluded. Topics include large language models, missing and misrepresented data, surveillance, mapping and power, and the environmental and cultural impacts of digital technologies.

The symposium will finish with a screening of the LifeMosaic documentary Mapping & Monitoring in Indigenous Territories, followed by a discussion with the film’s producer. The day is framed around fairness, inclusion and the public good, and asks how people can participate more meaningfully in the future of AI.
