Curious about physics, engineering or materials? Join EMPower Oxford to explore those fields through online workshops, academic mentoring and industry role models — and potentially a short residential in Oxford to boost your skills and university/career prospects.

EMPower Oxford is a two-year programme from the University of Oxford Department of Physics for Year 10 and Year 11 students of Black heritage. It introduces participants to Physics, Engineering and Materials Science through online workshops, academic mentoring and role models from research and industry.

The Year 10 strand includes online workshops and mentoring sessions, with some students also invited to join a short residential experience in Oxford. Participants are expected to commit to the full programme, including all sessions where possible, and residential participants also continue with the online element.

The Year 11 strand continues the academic mentoring and support, helping students build confidence, develop study skills and explore STEM pathways. Students who complete the Year 11 programme can then progress into the Year 12 Access Programme.
