Outschool The Shadow & Ink Society: High School Gothic Fiction

This is a live online literature class for students aged 13-18, taught over 32 weeks with one 45-minute meeting per week. Learners explore Gothic fiction through the lives and works of influential writers, reading popular gothic stories and studying the literary elements that make the genre distinctive.

The class combines discussion, creative projects, and activities designed to build a deeper understanding of Gothic literature. Students are expected to read the set material before class, and assessment can be provided upon request.

The course is described as a full curriculum experience for small groups of 2-10 learners. The content also includes thoughtful guidance around mature Gothic themes such as grief, death, addiction, and moral corruption, handled carefully and respectfully.

The class aims to create a safe space for discussion while also exploring the historical context of 19th-century writing and the ways authors shaped their stories from real human experiences.
