Curious how fabric can think and move? Explore e-textiles and wearable tech with a self-paced online course from MIT Beaver Works. Build practical skills in textile and electronics integration, prototype next-to-skin devices and boost your portfolio while connecting with industry-focused learning.

Beaver Works Summer Institute’s E-Textiles and Wearable Technology 2026 is a self-paced online pre-course that introduces learners to textile-based wearable technology. It explores how next-to-skin devices can monitor, actuate, and move, and explains the kinds of use cases where working close to the human body is especially important.

The course is aimed at students who already have some basic knowledge of textile design, apparel design, and electronics. It also highlights a partnership with the Advanced Functional Fabrics of America Institute in Cambridge, giving participants a look at how advanced functional fabrics are produced.

The course runs for 44 weeks and forms part of the wider BWSI summer programme.
