Maths into AI is a new AMSP programme designed to raise awareness of the links between mathematics and AI and to develop students' practical data modelling skills. The student course, Maths into Data Science and AI, is taught online across a term and uses real datasets (climate, sport, business, demographics) to build understanding of training/testing data and bias in machine learning.
Students will attend 11 one-hour weekly online lessons in a single term, complete a practical task and sit a 60-minute written exam; successful students receive a certificate from MEI which can be referenced in university applications. Two versions of the student course are offered: one aimed at A level Maths students and another for students on other Level 3 programmes with mathematical content (eg Core Maths).
There is also a professional development course for teachers (The Maths of Data Science and AI) consisting of five online twilight sessions and one face-to-face study day. Bursaries are available to help cover travel and cover costs for teachers.
The programme will run across multiple terms with recruitment open for autumn 2025 cohorts.
