This Level 2 Animal Care course gives learners the knowledge and practical skills needed for entry-level roles within the animal care industry. You will develop skills in handling, welfare and health for a variety of animals (for example reptiles, birds and small mammals), and follow units that include animal grooming such as bathing, health checks and basic grooming techniques.
The course is delivered full-time over one year (September start, running through to June) at the Taylor Hill Centre. Practical sessions cover cleaning, feeding, health checks and the design/requirements of animal accommodation.
Work experience is part of the course and many students gain placements at kennels, catteries, grooming parlours, pet shops, veterinary practices and stables. Successful completion supports progression to Level 3 study (T Level or similar) or employment within animal care roles.
