Work through an on-demand virtual programme exploring how disease prevention and biosecurity protect animal, plant and environmental health. Interactive activities and quizzes take you into laboratory work, specialist facilities, field delivery and the protection of plants, bees and pollinators.
This on-demand virtual work experience introduces you to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and the important role it plays in protecting animal, plant and environmental health across the UK. You’ll explore how APHA helps prevent disease, supports biosecurity, and works with partners to respond to risks that affect food security, trade, farmers and communities.
The programme includes interactive content, quizzes and activities that build your understanding of science at APHA, including laboratory work, specialist facilities, data and technology, field delivery, and the protection of plants, bees and pollinators. You’ll also learn about the organisation’s wider responsibilities, from supporting animal health and welfare to working with farmers and the public.
Alongside the subject knowledge, the programme highlights careers across science, veterinary, policy and support functions, as well as the skills APHA values most, such as teamwork, communication, curiosity and problem-solving. It is designed to help you explore whether a future in this sector could be right for you, and you can complete it at your own pace online.
