Join a team developing visual artwork for an animated short, from character and environment design to colour scripts, storyboarding and layout. Get weekly critiques, shot reviews and art direction, then take production work for your portfolio and the chance to appear in the film credits.
Animationclub School’s Short Film Creation: Visual Development Masterclass is a mentor-led, studio-style online course focused on visual development for an animated short film. Students work through character design, environment design, prop design, colour scripts, storyboarding and layout, learning how these elements fit into a professional animation pipeline and help shape a final film.
The course is built around collaborative production rather than isolated exercises. Participants join a team, contribute role-specific artwork and receive weekly critiques, shot reviews and art direction from mentors.
Live sessions take place online, with recorded feedback available for catch-up, and students also have access to Discord support and additional activities such as figure drawing and film studies.
It is aimed at students who already have a solid animation foundation and want real studio-style experience. A portfolio submission is required, and learners complete the course with production work for their portfolio, a personalised certificate, and the chance for their work to be featured in the final film credits.
If their work meets expectations, they may also be referred to partnered studios after the project.
