This is a Commis Chef Level 2 apprenticeship at The Moon & Sixpence in Hanwell, Banbury. The role is hands-on in a busy independent restaurant and includes developing practical kitchen skills such as preparing, cooking and finishing a variety of dishes, portion control, food safety and allergen procedures, and maintaining kitchen hygiene and equipment.
Typical working pattern is 5 days out of 7 with split shifts and 37 hours 30 minutes per week.
The apprenticeship includes off-the-job training delivered by Solihull College and University Centre, covering the Commis Chef Level 2 standard plus Level 2 food hygiene and Level 2 allergen training. Course content includes knife skills, ingredient selection, cooking techniques across food types, menu support, stock control and professional workplace skills.
The employer will support development and assessment throughout the programme.
Wage for the first year is listed at £14,722.50 (then could increase depending on age). The advertised start date is Sunday 14 December 2025 and the duration is 1 year 6 months. Successful candidates may be offered a full-time role within the business on completion.
