This Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship at French Living places you in a small, closely supervised kitchen brigade where you will learn hands-on food preparation, cooking and finishing dishes to a traditional French standard. Daily duties include prepping, cooking starters, mains and desserts, plating, service support and kitchen tidying.
You will be expected to become proficient across multiple kitchen positions and learn safe use of food-preparation equipment and hygiene procedures.
You will be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week, with the working day typically starting around 10:00 for prep, service from 12:00 and tidying from 14:00. The apprenticeship includes day-release weekly training on Tuesdays at Fletchers Kitchen (City Hub campus) delivered by Nottingham College.
The role starts Thursday 20 November 2025, runs for 2 years 6 months, and may lead to a permanent position on successful completion.
The employer is a family-owned French restaurant in Nottingham city centre (25-27 King Street, NG1 2AY). Training covers practical cookery skills, food safety and allergen procedures, portion control, stock management, team working, and professional communication.
The employer highlights close supervision by an experienced head chef and opportunities to develop traditional French culinary techniques.
