This is a two-year apprenticeship combining practical on-the-job training with study to achieve the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification, including Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English where required. The programme includes completion of an in-house competency programme and formal qualifications that lead to eligibility for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Under supervision of registered Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists, the apprentice will rotate across hospital pharmacy services and gain experience in medicines receipt, storage, distribution and dispensing. Duties include maintaining stock control, assisting with ordering, environmental monitoring, supporting safe disposal of medicines, accurate dispensing, and using pharmacy IT systems.
All work follows Standard Operating Procedures, Good Distribution Practice and Health and Safety regulations.
The post is rotational and supports learning through structured supervision, reflection and continuous professional development.
