Army Cadets is a UK youth organisation for young people aged 12 to 18. It gives cadets the chance to build confidence, make friends and develop practical skills in a supportive local community. The programme is open to beginners, and no previous experience is needed to get started.
Cadets can take part in a varied programme that includes first aid, navigation, fieldcraft, adventurous training, sport, music, leadership, teamwork, community events, camps and competitions. Many detachments also offer specialist opportunities, and cadets may attend weekend camps, annual camps and other activities that help them challenge themselves and try new experiences.
The organisation is run by experienced adult volunteers and is designed to help young people learn at their own pace. Cadets can also work towards recognised qualifications and awards, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, BTEC Level 2 options and the ILM Certificate in Team Leading.
Joining is done through your local detachment, where you can register your interest and find out more about parade nights.
