Develop fiction, prose and poetry in small-group seminars and tutorial-style sessions at Cambridge colleges. Explore character, plot, voice and compelling openings, with teaching adapted to your group’s interests. You’ll finish with detailed tutor feedback and a personalised letter of recommendation.
Atlas Summer Courses runs a Creative Writing summer school in Cambridge for ambitious 16-17-year-olds. Hosted at colleges of the University of Cambridge, the programme brings students into an academic setting where they can develop storytelling, poetry and writing skills with expert tutors.
Teaching is delivered through small-group seminars and tutorial-style sessions, with classes of up to 10 students. Learners explore fiction, prose and poetry, and work on narrative technique, character, plot, voice and compelling openings.
The course is adapted to the interests of each group, so students can build confidence in their own writing style rather than following a fixed curriculum.
Alongside the academic work, students benefit from guided workshops, close reading, critical thinking and reflection. At the end of the programme, participants receive a certificate of completion, detailed tutor feedback and a personalised letter of recommendation.
The course is in-person and designed to give older teenagers an immersive Cambridge summer school experience.
