BAE Systems' Engineering Technical - Design Apprentice (Advanced Apprentice Designer) is an entry-level apprenticeship based in Barrow-in-Furness within the Submarines business. Apprentices will undertake structured on-the-job placements across designer teams working on programmes such as Astute, Dreadnought and SSN AUKUS, creating models and outputs using CAD software (CADDS5, FORAN or Siemens NX).

Training in teamwork, communication, sustainability and health & safety is provided as part of the programme.

You will study towards a Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering qualification, receive multiple placements within the business and after the first year be badged as an Electrical, Mechanical or Hull & Outfit designer. The role prepares you to work towards and complete a Level 3 End Point Assessment as an Engineering Design Technician.

The apprenticeship includes annual salary progression and a range of employee benefits such as pension, share plans and flexible health and wellbeing benefits.

Applicants should hold 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9-4/A*-C including Maths and English and a Science/Technical subject. Note that many roles require security and export controls: all applicants must achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard and some roles require additional national security vetting which may be restricted by nationality or require several years of continuous UK residency.
