BAE Systems Submarines is offering a business-focused work experience programme at its Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge in Barrow-in-Furness. The placement is designed to give young people an introduction to the business side of a major employer, with insight into how the business function operates and the kinds of careers available within it.

Participants will take part in a mix of employability workshops, practical activities, university talks, and a mock interview. They will also have the chance to speak with current staff and apprentices, helping them explore possible career paths and understand what working in a large organisation can involve.

The programme is aimed at students in sixth form who meet the academic entry requirements, including GCSEs and UCAS Tariff Points. It is a structured in-person experience for those looking to build confidence, develop workplace skills, and gain a clearer picture of business-related careers.

Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge, Barrow-in-Furness
  • Must be in Year 12 at the time of application and going into Year 13 in September.
  • For those aged 16-18 (Years 12 and 13).
  • Must have achieved, or be on track to achieve by August 2028, 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent), including maths and English.
  • Must have a minimum of 96 UCAS Tariff Points (240 point old system), excluding UCAS points gained at AS level.
  • The 96 UCAS Tariff Points must be achieved from either 3 A levels, a Level 3 Extended BTEC Diploma (which meets the required UCAS points), or an equivalent qualification such as a T-Level.
