Get one-to-one online mentoring from trained undergraduates studying in Wales. Weekly prompts guide tailored conversations about your education and career options, study skills, CVs, cover letters and applications, with extra careers, education and student-life resources.

Bangor University’s Reaching Wider Mentoring Programme offers one-to-one online mentoring for learners from HEFCW priority groups and communities. It is designed for young people in Year 12 and Year 13 who want support with their next steps in education, careers and progression.

The programme uses the Brightside secure platform to match mentees with trained undergraduate mentors studying in Wales.

Mentoring pairs receive weekly prompts and discuss tailored topics that build confidence, knowledge and practical skills. The scheme supports learners with post-16 and post-18 options, routes into higher education and apprenticeships, study skills, CVs, cover letters, applications, communication, research and wider employability skills.

Mentees also get access to additional careers, education and student-life resources.

The wider Reaching Wider programme prioritises young people from the bottom two quintiles of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation, as well as care-experienced learners, carers, disabled people, UK ethnic minority learners and Welsh-medium learners. The scheme is free for mentees and is intended to help learners make informed choices about their future pathways.
