Across three weeks of Zoom sessions, examine how populism, political apathy, misinformation, protest and political violence shape public debate and election outcomes. Consider whether trust in democratic institutions is weakening from a university perspective.
This Bangor University short course explores the pressures facing modern democracy and asks whether trust in democratic institutions is weakening. Across three consecutive days (26, 27 and 28 October), students look at topics such as populism, political apathy, misinformation, protest and political violence, and consider how these forces can shape public debate and election outcomes.
The course is aimed at A Level students studying Politics or a related subject area, as well as anyone with an interest in studying Politics at university. Sessions are delivered online via Zoom and in English, making it accessible to students who want to deepen their understanding of democracy, power and citizenship from a university perspective.
