Spend a week alongside library assistants, supporting the day-to-day running of a local branch and potentially helping with events, activities and special projects. Choose your preferred library and arrange your own transport across the BCP area.
BCP Libraries offers work experience placements for young people who want to find out how a library works. Placements typically last for one week, and participants work closely with library assistants to support the day-to-day running of the library.
They may also help with events, activities and special projects.
The placement is based at a library branch of the applicant’s choice. Most people choose a branch close to where they live, but applications are accepted from people across the BCP area as long as they can arrange their own transport to the library.
The scheme is aimed at young people who are interested in a customer-facing environment and want to learn more about library work.
To apply, applicants must complete the form and send it directly to their first-choice library. Forms can be dropped off in person, emailed as an attachment, or sent by post. If a placement is offered, the library will usually invite the applicant in for an informal interview before discussing the next steps.
