The University of Oxford Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages is holding a Beginners' Languages Taster Day on Saturday 7 March 2026 at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. The event is aimed primarily at students from UK secondary schools in Year 12 (or equivalent), with Year 11 students who are beginning to consider university options also welcome.
The day provides the chance to experience taking a language from scratch and to learn more about the Faculty's beginners' languages degree courses. After a morning information and Q&A session, students can attend taster sessions in two beginners' languages.
Academics and current undergraduates will be available to provide information about courses and answer questions. Languages represented include German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Czech (with Slovak), Modern Greek, and Polish.
There will also be an afternoon Q&A session for companions (parents/guardians/teachers) with a panel of academics, undergraduates, and Faculty staff. To register, students must complete the online registration form by 12:00 noon on Friday 13 February 2026.
Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and the form will close once maximum capacity is reached. The Faculty can assist students in need of additional financial support with reasonable travel expenses; there is a space on the registration form to request this assistance.
