Being a Boy is a fully funded outreach programme from Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) that offers creative workshops for young men to explore masculinity and identity through arts practice. The project (launched 2022) provides a range of themed workshops - including theatre, fashion branding, photography, graphic design, filmmaking and special effects makeup - delivered on AUB's campus and using its creative spaces.
Workshops are practical and participatory: participants work on skills, create artwork or short performances, and leave with physical outputs (prints, USB copies of films, portfolios or props). Workshops are open to young men studying in KS3 or KS4 (aged 12-16) and living permanently in England.
Places are fully funded and limited (maximum three students per education provider at each workshop). Lunch and workshop materials are provided. The programme also runs an online information session for parents/carers, teachers and advisors to explain the 2026 programme and answer questions.
