The Biomedical Engineering Summer Academy at the University of Texas at Austin is an immersive two-week on-campus program for high school students (ages 14-18) interested in biomedical engineering. The curriculum blends classroom instruction with hands-on projects covering biomedical imaging and instrumentation, cellular and biomolecular engineering, computational biomedical engineering, and molecular/cellular/tissue biomechanics.
Students work on practical projects to build a portfolio and receive instructor feedback and detailed performance summaries.
The program runs on the UT Austin campus in Austin, Texas, and offers both residential (boarding) and day options. Tuition covers academic classes, housing for residential participants, two meals per day (varies by program), campus activities and excursions, and local transportation for included activities.
International participants receive visa support, arrival assistance, international health insurance, and help obtaining a local SIM card; a supplemental lab/materials fee of $195 (USD) is required.
Applicants should complete the Summer Institute Application to secure a place. After the program students receive a course completion certificate and a letter of recognition; some credit-bearing classes provide grade reports and instructions for requesting a university transcript (acceptance of credit depends on the receiving university).

Two attendance options for the June 14-26, 2026 session: Boarding £4,934; Day £2,841. A supplemental course fee of $195 (USD) covers lab and materials. International students are charged a mandatory International Registration Fee and may have additional support services included (visa support, transportation to/from campus, insurance).
