BrightIdeas 2027 is a free, fully funded pathway programme for Year 12 students in England who are considering medicine. It is delivered by Brighton and Sussex Medical School and includes support from a medical student e-mentor, giving participants guidance as they explore what studying and working in medicine can involve.
The programme combines four online sessions with a 4-day summer school on campus at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Students take part in a medicine-focused research project and explore themes such as admissions, radiology, communication, presentation skills and the UCAT, alongside insight into the role of a doctor as a scientist, clinician and teacher.
During the summer school, participants experience workshops in anatomy, clinical skills, medical ethics, neurology and primary care, as well as practical application support including personal statements and mock interviews. Students who successfully complete the programme may also be eligible for an adjusted offer and a guaranteed interview to study medicine at BSMS, subject to eligibility criteria.
