Apply NowFancy turning historic drawings into fresh stories? Join Bristol Libraries’ hands-on workshop with Samuel Loxton illustrations—explore creative prompts, write 100-word pieces, craft captions and perspectives, and build writing skills and portfolio pieces for uni or applications.
Using a selection of Samuel Loxton’s original pen-and-ink drawings, this hands-on workshop explores how images can generate story and how words can be returned to pictures in fresh ways. Participants will try creative prompts such as writing a never-run newspaper caption, composing the story behind an illustration in 100 words or fewer, writing from the point of view of a background figure, creating a headline and the scene beneath it, and imagining the moment just before or after the image.
The event is part of Local and Community History Month and celebrates a Bristol artist. It takes place at Bristol Central Library on 9 May 2026, 11:00-16:00. The session is drop-in and open to all; for enquiries email refandinfo@bristol.
