Test donated electricals by plugging them in, checking every function and cleaning them for sale. With full training and warehouse-team support, you’ll also spot damaged items for recycling and can volunteer for a few hours a week - or just occasionally.
This volunteer role with the British Heart Foundation involves testing donated electrical items to make sure they are fully functional and safe for sale. It suits people who are comfortable working with electricals, enjoy practical tasks behind the scenes, and want to help a charity that funds research into heart and circulatory diseases.
Full training is provided before you start, along with ongoing support from the warehouse team.
Typical tasks include plugging items in, checking that all functions work correctly, following guidance to test a wide range of electrical goods safely, cleaning items ready for sale, and helping to identify damaged or poor-quality donations for recycling. Some light lifting may be involved, with help available for heavier items.
The role is flexible and inclusive, and volunteers can usually offer a few hours a week or just a couple of hours occasionally. You will apply through the MyVolunteer portal and the charity will be in touch after you have applied to discuss next steps.
