Compose an unaccompanied SATB choral work inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and its closing Latin text. The winning piece will be performed by the British Museum Choir at the exhibition, with the winner receiving museum membership and a copy of the exhibition book.

Closes 31 January 2027Prize: A 12-month British Museum Membership, a hardback copy of The Bayeux Tapestry exhibition book, and the opportunity to have the composition performed by the British Museum Choir in front of the Bayeux Tapestry, with the chance to attend the performance.

Compose a new unaccompanied choral work for the British Museum Choir, inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and its closing Latin text. The competition asks entrants to write for mixed SATB voices, with music that is suitable for a mixed-ability amateur ensemble and can be performed without accompaniment.

Entries should be fully notated using music software and submitted as both a score and an audio file. The brief allows some limited divisi, as well as occasional solo lines or small groups, but the music should remain practical for performance.

The organisers welcome a wide range of musical styles, and the piece does not need to imitate medieval music.

The competition is open to amateur and emerging composers based in the UK, including GCSE and A-level students, university and conservatoire students, and composers writing independently. The winning composition will be performed by the British Museum Choir at the exhibition, and the winner also receives a museum membership and a copy of the exhibition book.
