Help the British Red Cross support communities in Wrexham and the surrounding area when emergencies happen. As an Emergency Response Volunteer, you may help people prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents such as fires, floods, and severe weather.
The role sits within a 24-hour service, so volunteers need to be available when on call. This volunteering opportunity is practical and service-focused. Volunteers are expected to commit regularly, attend monthly team meetings, and complete online learning and service-specific training in the first few months.
You should be comfortable working alone at times and confident driving a large British Red Cross vehicle or leased vehicle. To take part, you must be based within 30 minutes of Johnstown Fire Station, hold a driving licence for at least two years, and be willing to undergo a DBS check.
The Red Cross also highlights an expenses policy so volunteers are not left out of pocket for role-related costs, with support available if upfront costs are difficult.
Location
- Must be located within 30 minutes of Johnstown Fire Station, LL14 1LT.
- Must be able to volunteer on a regular basis.
- Must be able to commit to at least 2 x 12-hour shifts or 4 x 6-hour shifts per month.
- Must have held a driving licence for at least 2 years and be able to drive in the UK.
- Must be confident driving a large British Red Cross vehicle or leased vehicle.
- Must be comfortable with the possibility of lone working.
- Must be able to attend monthly team meetings.
- Must be available to complete required e-learning modules and online training in the first few months of volunteering, plus other service-specific training as required.
- Must be able to commit to volunteering for at least 12 months.
- Applicants must undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check and provide ID documents in support of the check.
- Applications from 15-17-year-olds are not accepted for this role.
Volunteers are supported through an expenses policy that aims to prevent them being out of pocket for role-related expenses. If upfront costs are difficult, volunteers can discuss alternatives with their volunteering manager.
