Bucksmore's Pre-University Creative Writing Summer Course is a residential on-campus programme held at St Hilda's College, University of Oxford designed for ambitious students aged 15-17. The course mirrors first-year university study and combines workshops, small group tutorials and guest lectures to develop students' storytelling, poetry, creative non-fiction, scriptwriting and critical editing skills.
Students produce a portfolio of original work and receive personalised feedback and a Bucksmore certificate and report card. The programme is offered as two-week or four-week options (students may attend as residential or day students).
Typical activities include classroom tutorials (around 23 tuition hours per week), masterclasses on university preparation, weekly guest lectures, debate society sessions, and 2 full-day plus 1 half-day excursions per week. The course emphasises academic skills for university entry, personal statement support and practical experience in a collegiate Oxford setting, concluding with a formal hall graduation and certificate presentation.
Practical arrangements are fully inclusive: accommodation at St Hilda's College, meals, excursions, insurance and UK airport transfers (conditions apply) are included in the advertised price. The course requires a £500 reservation fee to secure a place and students should be able to meet the minimum English requirement (B2).
