Cardiff University Me, Cardiff and the Shopping Arcades

A free creative workshop exploring how Cardiff’s historic shopping arcades shape everyday urban life. The event looks at the history and architecture of these iconic spaces, using Cardiff city centre as the setting for a hands-on exploration of identity, community and place.

Participants take part in a creative fieldwork art session with a local artist, using pencils, clay, crayons, texture rubbings and quick line drawings to capture hidden details in the arcades. The workshop then brings everyone together to combine their work into a collage and reflect on how close observation can change the way we understand historic spaces.

By the end of the session, attendees leave with a fresh perspective on Cardiff’s historic spaces and a deeper appreciation of their role in daily life. All materials are supplied, and the event is suitable for adults and older teenagers aged 16 and above.
