Help shape health services by sharing young people’s views, gathering feedback and creating information materials, animations or videos that explain procedures and services. You’ll contribute to Health Board decisions, with a minimum commitment of one hour a month.

Youth Board Member Volunteers support Cardiff and Vale University Health Board by taking part in decision-making and sharing the views of children and young people. The role is designed for young people who want to help shape services, raise awareness of health topics, and contribute to how the Health Board communicates with service users.

Volunteers may be asked to interview staff, present at conferences, help develop education for UHB staff, gather feedback from children and young people who use or have used services, promote positive health messages, and contribute to creating information materials, animations or videos that explain procedures and services. Most consultations are about children and young people, but the role can also include wider health and care topics.

The time commitment is a minimum of one hour per month, which can be done virtually and/or in person. Induction training is compulsory, along with any updates. In return, volunteers can gain experience in a healthcare setting, meet healthcare professionals, build communication and confidence skills, access training and mentorship opportunities, and potentially receive references for UCAS forms, work opportunities, and Welsh Baccalaureate hours.
