Unravelling the Helix: How Genomics is Revolutionising Healthcare is a free online webinar hosted by Central and South Genomics for sixth form students interested in healthcare careers. The session introduces the fast-growing field of genomic medicine and explains how genomics is helping the NHS personalise treatments, prevent disease, and improve patient outcomes.
Students will explore how genetics and genomics are used across healthcare, including by scientists, midwives, nurses, pharmacists and doctors. The webinar is designed to deepen understanding of a rapidly changing area of medicine and to help students think about future study and career options in health and social care.
It may also be useful for interview preparation and for strengthening UCAS personal statements. Topics covered include what genomics and genetics are, the role of family history in healthcare, whole genome sequencing and the Generation Study, genomic research, and how genetics is used across different medical specialities.
