Dr Paul Clist leads a live webinar using real-world comparisons to explore why life chances, income and opportunity vary between countries. Debate barriers to development and government policy choices, then discuss responses to a short preparatory quiz.
This live, interactive webinar explores development economics and asks why some nations are trapped in poverty. Dr Paul Clist, Associate Professor in Development Economics in the School of Global Development at the University of East Anglia, leads the session and uses real-world comparisons to show how life chances, income and opportunity can vary dramatically between countries.
Students will think about where these differences come from, whether they are fixed, and whether inequality is growing. The session also considers the nature of less-developed countries, barriers to growth and development, and the policy choices available to governments around the world.
Participants are asked to complete a short preparatory quiz in advance so the responses can be discussed during the event. The webinar is designed to be participative and suitable for classroom groups or individual students joining from school or home.
