Explore how false memories form in an interactive online talk on forensic psychology with Dr Jennifer Murphy from the University of Surrey. Unpack unreliable recollections, misleading line-ups and memory errors in the legal system, including why eyewitnesses and jurors can get things wrong.
Join Dr Jennifer Murphy from the University of Surrey for an interactive online talk exploring forensic psychology and the theme of memory. The session looks at how false memories are formed, why our recollections can be unreliable, and what factors can distort the way we remember events.
The event also examines the impact of memory errors in real-world settings, especially the legal system. Students will consider why eyewitness accounts can be mistaken, how line-ups can mislead, and why jurors’ memories are not always dependable.
It is designed for pre-university students with an interest in Psychology and related subjects, and it can be taken as a school group or individually from school or home.
