Analyse current headlines and media examples to see how migrants are represented and how communication shapes ideas of belonging. In a live, interactive discussion, build media studies vocabulary and examine how political responses are legitimised and normalised.
This live, interactive webinar explores how media and communication shape public understanding of migration and belonging in society. Using current headlines and examples from different media platforms, students will analyse how migrants are represented and build vocabulary around key ideas in media studies and visual and textual analysis.
The session is challenge-led and discussion-based, with opportunities to think critically about communication, power, and how political responses are legitimised and normalised. It is designed for pre-university students studying Media, Sociology and related subjects, and is delivered by Dr Lindsay Balfour and Dr Philipp Seuferling from the University of Glasgow.
The event takes place on Zoom, is not recorded, and resources may be shared afterwards where available.
