Shadow consultants, doctors and their teams on wards and in clinics, then try clinical skills, basic life support and phlebotomy. Specialist talks and sessions cover hand hygiene, infection control, safeguarding and blood services.
Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s Medical Work Experience programme is designed for young people who are thinking about a future career in medicine. It offers a realistic introduction to working in an acute NHS hospital, helping participants understand the variety of roles involved in patient care and the day-to-day work of doctors and wider clinical teams.
The programme combines shadowing with practical and interactive sessions. Participants can expect activities such as clinical skills, basic life support, phlebotomy, hand hygiene and infection control, safeguarding, and blood services, alongside talks from specialists.
There is also time spent shadowing consultants, doctors and their teams on wards and in clinics, giving students first-hand insight into medical practice, teamwork and the realities of hospital life.
