Train across solo and ensemble singing, then take part in a collaborative semi-staged performance. Get one-to-one lessons and masterclasses with vocal specialists, explore songwriting with the resident composer, and connect with orchestral, piano and jazz students through shared activities.

Chetham’s Singing and Performance Course is an intensive summer course for young singers aged 14-17 who are looking for a challenging and inspiring week of musical development. It is designed for intermediate to advanced students and focuses on both solo and ensemble singing, with a repertoire that spans classical, contemporary, choral, opera and musical theatre styles.

Participants take part in one-to-one singing lessons, performance classes and masterclasses led by specialist staff from Chetham’s Vocal Department, supported by professional accompanists. The course also includes work on song interpretation, foreign language diction, breathing, support, and vocal health, helping singers build confidence, technique and a deeper understanding of their voices.

There are also songwriting classes with the resident composer, giving students the chance to create original lyrics, melodies and harmonies. A highlight of the week is a collaborative semi-staged performance, and with a small cohort of just 16-20 participants, students benefit from individual attention as well as lively group work.

The course is part of Chetham’s wider Summer School, so singers also connect with orchestral, piano and jazz students through shared activities.
