Chigwell School offers a number of Sixth Form Art & Design Scholarships each year to pupils who wish to study Art and Design at A Level. The scholarship recognises talent and artistic potential and gives recipients a prestigious role within the art department.
Scholars are expected to maintain a high academic standard in their art studies and to act as ambassadors for the department at exhibitions, open days and other public events. To apply, candidates must submit a portfolio of recent practical work and attend an interview with the Head of Art and Design.
Portfolios may include GCSE work or ongoing projects such as sketchbooks, larger-scale drawings or paintings, sculptures, textiles, photographs, digital works and final pieces, as well as any self-directed work. The department looks for work of high technical standard (expected GCSE grades 8 or 9), confident use of multiple media, strong personal development of themes, and evidence of experimentation and thoughtful engagement with other practitioners' work.
