Plant scrub shelter and cowslips at Hall Farm, then protect them with deer netting to support the Duke of Burgundy butterfly’s habitat and spread. Bring sturdy footwear, weather-ready clothing and a packed lunch; tea, coffee, biscuits and spare gloves are provided.
This in-person conservation volunteering session takes place at Hall Farm in Dagnall and focuses on helping the Duke of Burgundy butterfly. Volunteers will plant scrub shelter and cowslips, then protect the new planting with deer netting to improve habitat and support the species’ spread across the area.
The day begins with a safety briefing, so punctual arrival is important. The organiser notes that the timings are approximate, with arrival at 10:30, a lunch and tea break around midday, planting continuing afterwards, and the session aiming to finish in the mid-afternoon.
Participants should bring gloves if they have them, wear weather-appropriate clothing, and choose sturdy footwear such as steel toe capped boots rather than trainers. Long trousers, a waterproof, plenty of fluids and a packed lunch are recommended.
Tea, coffee, biscuits and spare gloves are provided, and volunteers are asked to advise the organiser about any allergies.
