City of London School for Girls offers academic scholarships by merit, with specific scholarship routes at 11+ and 16+. The school is a selective independent day school based in the City of London; scholarships are awarded for outstanding merit and promise and may be available at non-standard intake points.
At 11+ the school offers music scholarships: applicants must be successful in the CEM assessment and typically offer at least one instrument (or voice) at Grade 6 standard (lower grade may be considered for unusual instruments). Shortlisted 11+ candidates are invited to an audition and interview after the entrance exams in January.
Scholarships at this level are valid for five years and can be re-applied for in the sixth form.
At 16+ scholarships are offered in music, drama, art and sport. Music scholars should be Grade 8 on an instrument and will be asked to submit recordings; drama and art scholars are expected to choose those subjects at A level (drama applicants submit a short monologue; art applicants submit a portfolio).
Sports scholars should demonstrate high-level competitive involvement and submit video evidence. Shortlisted 16+ applicants will be invited to live auditions and interviews.
Location
- 11+ music scholarships: applicants must be successful in the CEM assessment to apply and offer at least one instrument (or voice) at a minimum of Grade 6 standard (lower grade considered for unusual instruments).
- 16+ music scholars: must be Grade 8 in one instrument; students do not necessarily need to choose music at A level, but it is encouraged.
- 16+ drama scholars: must choose to study Drama and Theatre Studies at A level.
- 16+ art scholars: must choose to study Art at A level and submit an art portfolio.
- 16+ sports scholars: should be competing at a high level (ideally club or representative level) and provide video evidence.
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to auditions and interviews; many applicants must submit videos/portfolios as part of the process.
£1,500 per year
Scholarships are worth up to £1,500 per year and are valid for five years. Pupils may have the opportunity to reapply for a scholarship in the sixth form.
