The University of Exeter Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship enables apprentices to achieve a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering while working as a salaried employee. The five-year programme combines on-the-job learning with block teaching at the Streatham Campus, covering topics including project management, mathematics, geotechnics, structural engineering, safety and sustainable development.
Apprentices typically spend around 20% of contractual working time on study, with off-the-job learning delivered in campus teaching blocks (four 2-week blocks) comprising lectures, seminars, practical sessions and workshops. Learning is industry-aligned and underpinned by workplace practice; apprentices complete an individual project in the final year in collaboration with their employer.
The apprenticeship is fully funded through the employer's Apprenticeship Levy (apprentices do not pay eligible training costs). As employees, apprentices earn a salary (typically £13,000-£19,000). Entry points are in September/October; applicants must secure an employer vacancy or job offer and meet the programme's academic and residency requirements.
Application deadlines and specific vacancy dates are listed on the University's current vacancies page (the page notes an application deadline of 15 July as listed on the programme page).
