Hear writer and director Robert Icke reflect on his work, then join a panel discussion on how Greek theatre is reimagined for modern audiences. Ask questions about ancient texts and contemporary performance, then stay for drinks in the Museum of Classical Archaeology.
This public event celebrates the Greek Play through a discussion of how Greek theatre continues to be reinterpreted for modern audiences. Writer and director Robert Icke will open the evening with reflections on his work before joining a panel discussion with speakers from the classics community.
The event is organised by the Cambridge & District Classical Association in association with the Classics Faculty’s Classical Reception seminar.
The evening is designed for anyone with an interest in classical drama, theatre, adaptation and the continuing life of Greek tragedy on stage. It offers a chance to hear from leading voices in the field, ask questions, and explore how ancient texts are brought into conversation with contemporary performance.
Attendees are also invited to stay afterwards for drinks in the Museum of Classical Archaeology. Pre-registration is not required, although space in Little Hall is limited.
