Explore ancient Cypriot writing with a Cambridge specialist, and see how its endangered scripts connect to the challenges facing communities whose minority scripts are disappearing today. Join the online talk via Zoom, then take part in a discussion.

Cambridge & District Classical Association is hosting an online talk by Dr Pippa Steele of Cambridge on the theme of endangered writing. The session explores writing from ancient Cyprus and considers how the study of ancient writing endangerment can shed light on the challenges faced by modern communities whose minority scripts are disappearing.

The talk is presented as an accessible online event and is open to everyone. It offers an opportunity to hear from a specialist working on visual interactions in early writing systems and the Endangered Writing Network, with a focus on how classical research can speak to contemporary cultural questions.

Attendees join via Zoom and can expect a short, focused lecture followed by an opportunity to engage with the topic in a public-facing setting.
