Hear writer and director Robert Icke discuss reimagining Greek theatre, including his acclaimed adaptations of the Oresteia and Oedipus. Then join a panel chaired by Rebecca Laemmle, with scholars and practitioners, before continuing the conversation over drinks at the Museum of Classical Archaeology.
In this in-person event, the Cambridge Classical Reception Seminar series explores the theme of Greek theatre reimagined, with writer and director Robert Icke as the featured speaker. Icke is introduced through reflections on his acclaimed adaptations of the Oresteia and Oedipus, placing his work in dialogue with classical drama and modern interpretation.
The event continues with a panel discussion chaired by Rebecca Laemmle and featuring Sydney Hertz, Fiona Macintosh, Shushma Malik and Rosalind Parker. It is framed as a celebration of the Cambridge Greek Play and brings together scholars and practitioners interested in the afterlife of ancient theatre.
The session is open to all, with no pre-registration required, although space in the lecture theatre is limited. Afterwards, attendees are invited to continue the conversation over drinks at the Museum of Classical Archaeology.
